The importance of taking a nutritious diet and staying healthy cannot be underlined. However, it is all the more important for growing teens to stay healthy because of the various stress factors they face everyday including but not limited to academics, extracurricular activities and peer pressure etc. Following are some useful and practical tips for teenagers to achieve this goal;

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should not be skipped at any cost. Research has proven that having breakfast regularly, has a positive impact on concentration levels and helps control body weight.
A regular work out routine increases the heart rate and makes the body sweat boasting your energy levels. Experts suggest staring the work out with warm up exercises leading half an hour of a rigorous workout and concluding with some warm up exercises.
Eighty percent of human body is water. Thus, drinking at least 8 glasses of liquid is of ut
most importance. This figure will be higher for people living in tropical climates.
Eat healthy snacks throughout the day. Choose snacks from different food groups that contribute to your daily nutrition requirements ands avoid junk food as much as possible.
Physical activity positively impact on your health. Try setting aside at least half an hour each day for physical activities such as walking, climbing the stairs, swimming etc.
Research indicates that smoking one cigarette reduces your life by up to six minutes. Passive smoking; a phenomenon we tend to brush aside also has serious health related ramifications.
Sleeping less than least eight hours a day has known to cause brain damage. Adequate sleep rejuvenates you and improves your concentration level making your more effective and efficient.

Stress is an inevitable part of everyday life. Experiment and adopt a stress buster that works best for you; professionals suggest various stress relievers such as adopting a positive attitude to life, taking a vacation, avoiding difficult people when possible and incorporating an activity you like in your routine.
One in every three teens in America has a weight problem. Health eating habits can do miracles for your health; avoid foods high in carbohydrates such as burgers, pastries, French fries etc; prefer skimmed/low fat versions of dairy products such as milk, cheese, butter etc.

Avoid access caffeine since high caffeine levels have been linked to anything and everything from insomnia to high blood pressure. Even though some of these relationships are only based on myths, the fact that very high levels of caffeine is not good for health is irrefutable.

Alcohol is by far the most abused drug among teenagers around the globe. More than three million teenagers in the United States are alcoholics and eighty percent have tried it before becoming high school seniors. Doctors have proven that alcohol negatively impacts intellectual abilities in teenagers. Underage drinking may make you popular but it is definitely not the smartest thing to do for your health both in the short and longer term.
