Learn the Best Nutrition Secrets

When it comes to nutrition, it’s all about what types of food you eat and how often. However, with all of the food choices available out there (more unhealthy than healthy) it’s easy to lose track of what we consume and how we’re treating our bodies. But with the following nutrition tips and secrets, you can turn your diet around and make it work in your favor.

You don’t necessarily need to have a special diet in order to shed unwanted pounds. By eating nutritiously throughout the week, you’ll be able to enjoy the foods you want without feeling guilty. The first thing you should educate yourself about is the food pyramid. While it has changed somewhat throughout the years, the food pyramid still holds the key to the basic building blocks of good nutrition. So what should you be including in your daily diet to ensure that you’re following all the rules?

· At least 3 ounces of grains a day. These foods include: brown rice instead of white, whole-wheat pasta, couscous and whole-grain products.
· 2-5 servings of fruit. You’ll get the best health benefits from fresh fruit as opposed to just fruit juice. For a change, try eating fruit that’s been frozen, canned or dried.
· 2-3 servings of protein a day. Chicken, fish, lean meat, legumes, seeds, nuts, eggs, and low-fat dairy products are the best sources of protein that can easily be included in your daily meals.
· 3-10 servings of vegetables a day. The most important ones to include are dark, leafy green vegetables and red/orange vegetables.
· 1-2 tablespoons of fat a day. While fats are essential within the body, too much isn’t healthy. Olive oil is a great way to include fats in your diet in a way that is tasty and absolutely healthy.
· 2-3 servings of dairy products a day. Low-fat and fat-free dairy products are ideal. Calcium supplements can also help you make sure you’re including enough dairy in your diet.

One great nutrition secret is to include tea among your list of favorite beverages. By now we’ve all heard the great things about tea, especially green tea. Drinking tea on a daily basis provides your body with large amount of nutrients, energy and even helps with the assistance of weight loss. Tea is filled with potent antioxidants called polyphenols that prevent cell damage and can even kill bacteria that causes gum disease.

To provide yourself with better nutrition, stay away from deep frying your food. Instead, opt for baking, broiling, steaming and microwaving your dishes. You’ll find that these cooking methods often bring out the best flavors and will increase your list of recipes. Using skinless, lean meats are also a sure bet towards eating healthier.

When it comes to preparing and cooking meals, include spices, lemons, olive oil and herbs instead of loading up on the butter and salt. Sugar substitutes are also a healthier way of enjoying your favorite foods without putting your health at risk.

For cheese lovers looking for a twist, try a helping of feta or goat cheese, which contains lower levels of fat. You can put feta sprinkles on everything from salads and sandwiches to pizza. Pasta fanatics can indulge in tasty nutrition by replacing creamy sauces, such as Alfredo and creamy Pesto, with marinara. When it comes to desert, recipes that call for fresh fruit and sorbets instead of pies and cakes are a safe and truly nutritious way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Makeup Tips for the Ebony Beauty

Out of all the shades of rich browns and mocha colored women, ebony complexions are among the most beautiful. Enhancing ebony beauty with the right makeup colors can be a challenge for darker skinned women, as there are often not enough shades and colors that complement this skin tone. By knowing what to look for, shopping for makeup doesn’t have to be a hassle.

Unlike other complexions, ebony beauties cannot wear just any shade of lipstick, eye shadow color or foundation. It’s only been within the past decade that makeup manufacturers have started selling makeup items specially designed for women of color. But even that has posed a problem. There are plenty of makeup lines in colors that complement the various brown, tan, and olive colored complexions…but what those with a deeper color of skin? If you haven’t come across a makeup collection just for ebony beauties, don’t worry. There is a way to find colors and shades that will make you look fabulous.

When shopping for makeup, women with ebony complexions should stick to makeup brands that carry lines made for women of color. Even if there is not one readily available for ebony skin, these brands automatically guarantee you’ll find shades that work better with darker complexions.

Trying to find a good foundation can be tricky for darker skinned gals. If your skin is already blemish free, smooth and even toned, you don’t even need foundation so skip it. For those who do need cover up, take your skin type into account when shopping for foundation. To lessen your search time, visit the nearest makeup counter at your favorite department store and have one of their makeup artists find the right shade for you. Many companies now specialize in foundation that can be specially blended and mixed to create your own personal shade, which is definitely worth looking into.

For eye makeup, ebony complexions look stunning in shades of dark browns, coppers, burgundies, beiges, and prunes. To play up the eye area a bit, try brushing loose, translucent powder over the entire lid. Shimmer on ebony skin usually ends up looking overdone so if you want to try this look, use as little shimmer as possible.

Lips look great in mocha, deep berry, dark plum, burgundy, chocolate and soft pinks. Stick to these colors and avoid harsh, bright colors like orange or fire engine red. This can create a washed out look and draw attention to your lips for the wrong reasons. Adding a touch of gloss doesn’t hurt either.

Darker skinned women normally don’t need blush but if you’d like to add a splash of color to your cheeks, seek out pinks, burgundies, and reds. The darker your complexion, the darker your blush should be in order for it to show through. Bronzers can also add the right touch of color.

Wear What You Eat – Making Masks From The Fridge

No one does it better than Mother Nature, and skin care is no exception to that rule. Get together with some friends and have fun whipping up these quick and easy recipes for facial masks that require ingredients you probably already have in your refrigerator.

For normal skin , this peach and oatmeal mask loaded with alpha-hydroxy acids that help soften wrinkles, reduce blemishes and unclog pores is just for you:

Cook one medium peach until soft, then mash. Add one tablespoon honey and enough oatmeal to thicken the mask. Apply evenly to skin and wait ten minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

For normal to oily skin , try this blend of carrots and honey:

Cook until soft, then mash 2-3 large carrots. Mix with 4 tablespoons honey. Gently apply the mask to your skin and wait ten to twelve minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

For oily skin , strawberries and honey will help reduce excess oil and refresh enlarged pores:

Mash nine strawberries into a pulp. Add three tablespoons honey. Mix well, but don’t over do it or your mask will be runny. Apply to entire face and wait three to five minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

If your skin is oily and acne prone , let this apple and honey mask spruce up your natural glow and texture:

Core and grate one medium sized apple. Blend with three to four tablespoons honey. Smooth over entire face and relax for eight to ten minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

If your skin is normal to dry and prone to bouts of acne , let this aromatic mask work to remove toxins and oils that reduce blemishes and tighten pores:

Boil five bay leaves in one cup distilled water and allow to cool. Strain the leaves, but keep the liquid. Slowly add the bay liquid to four tablespoons French clay. Mix until it is medium thick. Dab and blend onto skin and allow mask to dry for up to twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

For dry skin , your mask of bananas and honey will restore vitality to over-stressed skin:

Lightly mash two medium bananas. Don’t over mash or mask will be runny. Add two tablespoons honey and lightly blend. Apply to skin and wait ten minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

Want to get crazy? Try this recipe for a banana bread mask that will moisturize, soothe, soften and cleanse your skin along with the added bonus of a whole wheat flower antioxidant:

Mix well ½ very ripe mashed banana, a pinch of nutmeg, two tablespoons ground oats (put rolled oats through a clean coffee grinder or blender until it is a fine powder.) Add two tablespoons whole wheat flour. Blend in milk or cream until mask is a smooth paste. Apply to a clean face and enjoy for five to ten minutes. Rinse well with warm water and pat dry.

Because there are no preservatives in these recipes, they should be used immediately and then discarded.

How to Protecting Your Hair from the Sun

Summer is vastly approach and with summer comes the harsh rays of the sun. While most of us remember to protect our skin with sunscreen, often we forget to pay attention to our hair. The sun can damage hair’s cuticles, leaving your hair dry, brittle and frizzy. It can also make hair’s color fade and if you have fine or chemical-treated hair, the sun’s harsh rays can be extremely worse.

To prevent the summer sun from damaging your hair, check out these great tips:

In the Sun
Look for an SPF spray made for hair. If you can’t find an SPF or you’re in a pinch, you can use a sunscreen made for you skin. Apply ½ cup water with ½ teaspoon 25 SPF sunscreen. Mist on damp hair before styling. You can also apply undiluted sunscreen to the center part of your hair. If the sunscreen is too messy, try a lip blam with the highest SPF you can find. Be sure to wash the sunscreen from your hair using a deep-cleansing shampoo after you get home.

Look for styling products that have SPF built into them. Manufacturers are now providing consumers with SPF protection via hairsprays, styling gels, mousses, etc.

If you do choose to use a styling product with SPF protection, keep in mind that most contain alcohol, which can dry your hair out faster than the sun.

If you can’t find SPF for your hair, you can try using coconut, jojoba, sunflower or olive oil in your hair. To use, simply apply the oil to your hair before going out in the sun. The heat from the sun will help to penetrate the oil into your hair shaft. You should note however, while the oil will condition your hair and repair it before it becomes dry and brittle, it won’t protect from all sun damage.

Wear a hat or bandana if you’re going to be out in the sun. Choose a hat that has a wide brim all the way around. This will not only protect your scalp, it will also protect your skin. For bandana, wrap them starting at your hairline and leave the pointed end covering the rest of your hair. Look for fabric that is made from a very tight weave and is less likely to allow light to pass through it.

Put your hair into a french twist or bun when the summer heat is at it’s hottest. Putting your hair up will protect your scalp and the hair that is closest to your scalp from the sun.

Out of the Sun
Treat your hair to a deep conditioner at least once a week to help tame hair frizzies and put back the moisturizer that the hot sun can take away. Look for products that say, “replenish” or alcohol –free since these are designed to add moisture to the hair.

Wrap your hair in a plastic cap overnight to restore moisture lost from the sun and prevent frizzies.

If you color or bleach your hair and you’re a blonde or a brunette, have your colorist go half a shade darker to prevent the sun from fading the color. If you’re a redhead, try a color-locking treatment to prevent fading.

Finally, if you really want to prevent sun damage to hair, avoid the sunlight during the peak sun hours. This is when the sun is at it’s hottest. If it’s impossible to do so, wear a hat or SPF and try to stay in the shade where it is possible.

How to lose Weight quickly Quick Weight Lose Tips

1. GRAPE FRUIT DIET

The Grapefruit diet is a short-termed diet, which only lasts for a mere 2 ½ months. This diet can cause rapid weight loss and is highly popular among those who want to lose those extra pounds in a jiffy.

The grapefruit itself is such a healthy fruit. The fruit is known to contain literally no fat at all! It can help you to lose weight, as it is an energy-giving fruit. At the same time, it keeps your thyroid hormone well balanced and ensures a proper intake of fatty acids. It contains lots of potassium and is good for the heart. It however contains large amounts of vitamin C, antioxidants in the form of beta-carotene, sodium, and fiber.

Grapefruit diet may help people reduce their total calorie intake, but on the other side it may not be able to supply you with sufficient nutrients. In other words, the best way to a balanced diet is one that consists of all the essential nutrients.
It is best that you don’t eat much of anything, including grapefruits. The most ideal diet is one that is well balanced and well proportioned.

For instance, you can take a healthy helping of grapefruit, but do include other essential nutrients, which are not found in the fruit. Balance is the main key here. Do consult with your personal physician or dietitian before trying out on the Grapefruit diet.

The Grapefruit Diet weight loss plan is the ideal weight loss diet for real heavy weighters who need to lose lots of pounds. By following closely the Grapefruit diet, you would be able to lose 52 pounds within two and a half month!

However, several experts seem to say otherwise about the effectiveness of the grapefruit in its ability to cause weight loss. Some dietitians explained that the wonders of the grapefruit diet are simply myths and are not factual as these claims are not scientifically supported.

Some things are still left unexplained. For example, in the 1930’s, some claimed that the grapefruit’s enzyme would be able melt body fat. But yet, till today, no one can provide a concrete explanation on how it is made possible.

These counter allegations are not scientifically proven either. So, if you are on a grapefruit diet and it seems to be working well for you, it may be best for you to continue. After all, what matters is that a diet program works.

2. 3 Day Diet:

The 3-day diet is just another fad diet dating back to the 1980s. The 3-day diet is said to promote quick weight loss, lower cholesterol, cleansing and increased energy. The 3-day diet plan is a quick plan whereby you are entitled to eat only certain kinds of food in order to create a chemical reaction in your digestive system. This is so that it will boost the metabolism and hence causing our body to burn fat at a faster rate.

The 3-day diet is very specific and all you need to do is to adhere to it precisely. The portions must be eaten as specified and you must not overeat. If you fail to do otherwise, the 10-pound weight loss that you wish to achieve by the end of the 3-day diet would not be reached. Remember, at the same time, do not under-eat.

The 3-day diet goes as follows:

Breakfast: a piece of toast with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, one half a grapefruit and coffee (no sugar)

Lunch: black coffee, a piece of toast and a can of tuna

Dinner: a cup of green beans, 3 ounces of chicken or lean meat, one cup of carrots, one cup of regular vanilla ice cream and one apple

The next 2 days of the diet follows on like the 1st day, even though the menus differ slightly. At Day 2, one specific change is recommended – Eat 2 beef franks for dinner instead of 3 ounces of lean meat. The author refuses to reveal the science supporting this change though!

There are set backs to the 3-day diet. Firstly, it is most likely that you would put back the weight you loss right after the 3rd day. Secondly, you might want to consider the effects the 3-day diet will have on your health. During the 3-day diet, you will experience low energy. This is simply because you are consuming only 600 calories, while the body actually requires more than this to go about daily!

The good thing to the 3-day diet is that it is very useful for anyone who wishes to loose those pounds quickly for a special upcoming event. It is the “easy” way out of the usual standard hard-core dieting. This diet also does not consist of any exercise regimen.

How the 3-day diet works is by reducing the “Water weight” of your body. This is simply done by concentrating your meals on fish and cutting out all carbohydrates intake. As said, the weight loss is just temporary for as soon as you resume with your normal diet, you will put the water weight back on!
